How to Choose Your Duvet Covers
So you are convinced that a duvet is for you, and you’re ready to shell out your hard earned money to buy one.
Congratulations for the many nights of comfort and peaceful sleep you’ll be having! Now you’ll have to consider buying a duvet cover. Duvet covers are commonly available and can be bought along with the duvet.
Why have duvet covers anyway? First of all, they protect your duvet, ensuring that you have years and years of cozy slumber on it. Second, you will not have to wash your duvet ever so often and considering how repeated washings diminish the duvet’s quality or usability, you would want to minimize this. Having a duvet cover will allow you to go for years without washing the duvet itself. Washing the duvet cover is not a problem either and is far easier than doing the laundry for a whole set of bed sheets, blankets and so on and so forth.
So the practical advantages of having a duvet cover far outweigh any disadvantages the absence of a duvet cover brings.
Now you will have to choose what duvet cover to get. There is a wide assortment of duvet covers so variety is not a problem. The only issue now is to get a duvet cover that suits your needs and tastes.
What type of duvet do you have? This is probably the most important factor to consider when deciding what duvet cover to get. There is of course the size to consider. Depending on whether you have a king-size duvet or queen-size duvet, you would need king duvet covers or queen duvet covers. It could be that the duvet cover is for a kids bedding for which you will need a smaller sized duvet cover.
Apart from size, you should also consider the material of the duvet cover. A lot of people prefer Egyptian cotton for its one-of-a-kind texture that matches with the comfort of a duvet. Others would go for a silk duvet cover to match their silk comforter.
It has been noted that duvet covers would have to be washed on a regular basis, as opposed to washing the duvet at the same frequency which may ruin the duvet. You must therefore consider whether a duvet cover can be washed regularly and whether this would affect the material of the cover.
When getting more than one duvet cover, you might want to diversify in terms of design so that you don’t get just one design with minor variations. Say, you may want to get a red duvet cover to be alternated with a white duvet cover. Or you may be more adventurous with experimental designs. It all depends on your discretion.
Price is another issue to consider. You may consider it more prudent to get an average-priced duvet cover as opposed to a finer duvet cover at a higher price. The important thing to consider is whether the cover serves you well, even at a lower cost.
These are just brief pointers in choosing the right duvet cover. It is worthwhile to take more time to consider finding the right duvet covers for your specific purposes. After all, you’re going to be looking at it for years and years to come.
